A native of Rochester, New York, violinist/violist Sally Benson holds a Bachelor of Music degree and a Performer's Certificate from the Eastman School of Music, and a Master of Music degree from Indiana University, where her principal teachers were Carroll Glenn and Josef Gingold. She was a second prize-winner in the Coleman Chamber Music Competition. In addition to playing violin and viola in the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and, since 1970, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, she has played viola with Thirteen Strings, the Ottawa Symphony and with the Laurier and Benedykt String Quartets. She has further appeared at the NAC with the Juilliard Quartet, William Primrose, Lilian Fuchs, Ronald Leonard, Ray Still, Malcolm Frager and Anton Kuerti, among others, and has participated in the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival since its inception.
